Dear OSLC Congregation,
While the last 11 months have been challenging in so many ways, we are blessed to share in a faith-based community that — although having to do things differently than it did a year ago — is still very much together and moving forward.
In the spirit of this, I am writing to invite you to the annual February Congregational Meeting on Sunday, February 21, at 12:00 pm, which will take place via Zoom. The focus of this meeting will be:
- Ministry, committee, pastoral, etc. reports from the previous year and (hopeful) plans for the future;
- Elections for congregational attendees to the 2021 Virginia Synod Assembly and OSLC’s Nominating Committee (scroll down towards end of this post for more info on these);
- Remembering those members of Our Saviour who have died in 2020;
- Voting on Constitutional changes.

However, although voting members are the only participants allowed to vote, we invite everyone to attend.

OSLC’s Nominating Committee
At the congregational meeting, we will be selecting a Nominating Committee of four voting members whose duties shall include selecting and presenting a slate of members to fill expired and vacant terms on the Congregation Council, the Board of Trustees, Audit Committee and Endowment Committee. You may either let Troy Stansell or the pastors now in advance of the congregational meeting if you are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee or you may nominate from the floor during the meeting. No experience is necessary. It is a one-year term.
2021 Virginia Synod Assembly – Online
The Virginia Synod Assembly is an annual gathering of rostered leaders and elected voting members of congregations across the Commonwealth who gather together to care for necessary items of business, engage in fellowship, participate in corporate worship, and to be inspired by the theme and speakers.
The Virginia Synod Council recently met and, after consultation with the ELCA, other synods in our region, rostered and lay leaders, has decided to hold an online Synod Assembly for 2021. The Assembly will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Additional information will be shared in the future regarding the process for online attendance and the precise schedule for the day.
OSLC is entitled to three lay voting members at each annual assembly of the Virginia Synod. In an effort to extend participation to members of OSLC who have not previously attended the assembly, the council will be proposing the following motion during the congregational meeting:
“It is moved, that Our Saviour’s delegation of lay Voting Members to the 2020 Virginia Synod Assembly shall include at least one person who has not previously attended such an assembly.”
If you are interested in being one of the three voting attendees at this year’s online Synod Assembly, You may either let Troy Stansell or the pastors now in advance of the congregational meeting or you may nominate from the floor.
