What and When?
Through the four weeks of Advent, Holistic Mentor Shannon Scott and Pastor Terri Church lead a brief time in prayer, guided visualizations, and silent journal reflection to start the day and start the church year. Wednesday mornings, from 8:30-9:00am, beginning December 1.
Even before the global pandemic, mental health ranked at the top of ongoing needs for most of us. Our Thrive Renewal Process discovered that ALL of our constituent groups have intense needs in the realm of anxiety and mental health. Therefore, we have added this meditative prayer service as one offering to help us all build resilience through these challenging times.
One key to lowering anxiety and depression and its effects on our lives is to stay tuned to our bodies and breathing, to sit still, and allow peace to enter our hearts. Through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, we have access to present and lasting peace. Our time together will share Bible readings and prayers from the Christian tradition, as well as readings and prayers from other religious and even secular bodies.
Everyone is invited to log in and participate, whether brand new to meditation or long-time practitioners. Share the event and invite your friends and colleagues!
Leading us is Shannon: Holistic Mentor and RYT1000 (Registered Yoga Teacher with 1000 hours training) with 20 years teaching experience. She taught yoga classes at Our Saviour several years ago and has taught in a variety of other locations. Shannon is also assisting with the 2021-2023 Confirmation classes.
Supporting Shannon and the sessions is Terri: an ordained minister of Word and Sacrament in the ELCA with over 25 years’ experience in ministry in churches and institutional settings (homeless shelters, hospitals). She has been at Our Saviour since 2013.
Both are married moms with a love of seeking peace in their own lives and sharing it with others. (Ephesians 4:3)
We will meet on the Zoom teleconferencing platform at the link below. Let us know if you need help figuring out how to connect with us that way. If there is a desire for some to meet at church and log-in together, please contact Pastor Terri at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be ready to start a few minutes before 8:30 each morning. Have paper and something to write or draw with for the silent journaling reflection time. Find a physical space to gather for this short service—your desk, outdoors, next to a fireplace, wherever you can sit comfortably for the entire half-hour with as few distractions as possible. You may include any tools to help make this a space of worship and selfcare (candles, essential oils, art) if you like.
The most important thing is that you come and sit still for a bit, to find the Light of Christ within you!
