Follow along with us on this year’s trip to Hurley!

Ready to hop in the cars!

Cute Travel Video Here!

On, Sunday, July 6, 2025, Travel Day

Ten people from Our Saviour and St. Luke’s, Culpeper headed to Hurley, in far southwestern Virginia for a  five day adventure, in cars heavily laden with sleeping bags and cookies! Our first night included devotional time, games, and a small birthday celebration.

Safely arrived!
Thinking about what it means to ‘walk” with others.
A birthday party!
Monday is Demo Day! (We love our crow bars!)

This year’s project had two porches that were no longer safe for the resident or guests.

Removing the top surface of the front porch.
Hey, let me get back to work, here!
Making progress.
Tuesday, the rebuilding begins!

First, we raised the back porch to level, and replaced supports underneath.

Jacking up the back porch.
Putting new supports under the porch.

The front porch needed a lot of new work. We built a frame and started preparing the soil for the new ramp.

Cutting new wood for the porch.
Learning to use the saw.
Learning to dig post holes with the “earth tweezers.”
Wednesday and Thursday, we completed the project, in spite of frequent rain showers.
Stabilizing and leveling the ramp base.
The deck is finished, now for the railing pickets. Using the spacer to get them on straight.
You’ve gotta rest where you can!
Whoooaa! There’s a crank! Did you know it is possible to close the window of a vehicle without turning it on?
Things are getting a little crazy here!
Finishing the ramp with a non-skid surface.
Tada!

Fun and fellowship!

What a joy it is to be here in Hurley!
“Picnic” dinner with the community. (too hot to eat outdoors!
Barrett getting warmed up.
Will the Circle, Be Unbroken? Learning a new chord progression.
An impromptu concert! What wonderful music they made!
2200 pounds of fresh plums for the next food distribution. Unloaded from the truck in pouring rain, moved to stronger boxes, and refrigerated very quickly!
Evening shenanigans brought lots of laughs!
What in the world? This is crazy!
Weird leaders means silly activities. We have no explanation for this.
Our best friend Boscoe! (Especially at meal time!)
Headed home! We can’t wait to get back here! Thank you Hurley!
We are already thinking about 2026! Join us in person next summer!

Thank you to all who came and worked, to all who contributed fuel in the form of cookies, and your generous monetary offerings! We deeply appreciate your support and encouragement.
