Light of the World
Starting Sunday, December 5, 2021, and continuing through Sunday, January 9, 2022, the Adult Sunday School class will be gathering to begin an exciting Advent study called Light of the World.
Advent is not only the perfect time to read the story of the birth of Jesus; it’s also a great time to dive deeper into the biblical texts that surround the event. In this class we’ll see how the Gospel narratives connect to the Old Testament; highlight the role of women in first-century Jewish culture; and emphasizes the importance of Mary’s visitation, the census, the stable, the star of Bethlehem, and the flight to Egypt.
Copies of the book will be available at the class or at the church office. The book is also available in Kindle format from Amazon. If you get the book before the first class, please read the Chapter 1.
This class is offered in-person in room 6 and on-line via zoom.

An excerpt from a comment on Amazon puts it this way:
Why not use the time in Advent to LEARN MORE about the story around Jesus’s birth? We think we know the story so well because we hear the Gospel versions of it every year during Advent. But unless you’re a Biblical scholar yourself, you’ll be surprised at how much more there is to learn about the story. I loved learning about the historical context and the connections across the Bible. I even love the subtitle, “A Beginner’s Guide to Advent,” which welcomes any reader but also emphasizes that we’re all beginners during Advent, beginning this journey that starts with the birth of God’s son. To be a beginner is such a good perspective to take on at Advent — we are all at the beginning of our journey, there’s so much to learn, we can put on that fresh perspective and notice things that we wouldn’t if we thought we were experienced Advent-goers.
We look forward to having you join us!
